Dear Clients and Friends: Please find attached the next instalment of the Cornerstones of Health Newsletter. I know that a few people have asked to be removed from the email list, and if anyone else you like to be removed from this newsletter list, please notify me. Thank you very much, and have a wonderful day. Timothy Christ
We will begin this newsletter to inform everyone that the busy season is upon us. It isn’t the season that most of you are thinking about. No, this is the season that historically has seen a majority of clients trying to use up their extended health benefits prior to years end. We find that this makes it difficult for everyone to book treatments here at the Cornerstones of Health due to the sheer volume. To elevate this issue, we have brought on some new practitioners (see below), and we encourage you to try and book well in advance. Once again, we are sending out our appreciation for all the new referrals during the past few months. We have been able to help dozens more people, will be announcing a client referral appreciation program in the New Year. So keep your eyes open for the next newsletter. We are offering Gift Certificates for the Holiday Season. We encourage everyone to give the gift of health to all those that are near and dear to you. Why not try and give someone a Craniosacral Treatment, Homeopathy Session or Acupuncture. We will also be offering a combination of different treatments for an amazing, health promoting package. To find out more information, see the our website. |
While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.Some of you have noticed some new faces around the clinic, or seen new names when booking an appointment online.Well please let me introduce the new practitioners to the clinic.Avideh Motmaen-Far is a seasoned practitioner of manual therapy, whether for bringing relief and curing illness or for helping healthy people reach a higher degree of well-being. A graduate in kinesiotherapy since 1991 and member of the Belgian Society of Osteopathy since 2000, Avideh considers people and human health in a holistic manner combining mainstream and alternative medical techniques with age-old traditions of various cultures around the world. Using the skills and experience acquired over nearly twenty years of health-care practice and continual training Avideh will guide each individual patient through the most adequate path to help solve health problems and subsequently to achieve the highest possible degree of well-being.While studying medicine in the late 1980s in Europe, she became conscious of what is perhaps the main limitation of allopathic medicine, the fact that it considers a human person as a collection of biochemical processes without necessarily catering for subtler aspects of psychology and energy. The terminal illness that eventually took Avideh’s mother provided ample albeit painful opportunity to observe how the allopathic approach often fails to involve the patient in the healing process, while the means and methods it uses are not necessarily respectful of human well-being in the longer term. Reaching this larger understanding of the challenges of modern healthcare, Avideh took the decision to explore and develop medical practices involving an integral vision of human health considering the body as the starting point for identifying sources of imbalance, reduced well-being or illness. Dance and massage have always gone hand in hand as my first loves and more recently traditional Chinese medicine has joined the list. I studied TCM at the Ontario College of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and graduated in 2002. Presently I work as an RMT at a Yoga and holistic lifestyle and healing therapies centre in Rosedale. HOMEOPATHY ASSISTING THE HEALER By Elaine S Hutchison RHom Recently I was asked what my typical client looked like. My first response was, “Anyone with and ailment…”, but then, the “Anyone” could have four legs, or wings, or fins….or even roots!! The scope of Homeopathy is huge. Plants benefit from homeopathic remedies too; living cells respond! Many people know Homeopathy only as a First Aid treatment for strains, burns, bumps and bruises, etc, or as a treatment for colds, flu and sore throats. Arnica is likely the best known remedy for its quick relief from shock, pain, injuries, head injuries, blows, etc, and facilitating rapid healing….. One day I hopped on my bike after a long seminar, perhaps due to being very tired, I lost my balance in the crowd and ran into a concrete barricade resulting in a few scrapes; I thought. But my momentum had been stopped by my right shin bone coming up against that concrete edge. I got back on my bike right away feeling rather embarrassed….but soon felt the pain. Half way between my knee and ankle there was a big and growing lump on my shin and some blood. I stopped as soon as I could, feeling a bit nauseous; got out my vial of Arnica pellets (Homeopathic remedies are commonly dispensed in pellet form); put one into a little water I had poured into the lid of my drinking bottle and rubbed that freely on the wound! Ahhh! Pain relief. I waited about 5 minutes and did it again, then swallowed what was left in the lid. Ten minutes later when I got back on the bike, the pain and swelling were mostly gone, the bleeding almost stopped, and I felt better. I did not bandage it. The following day about 60% of the bruising discoloration had gone. It’s fun to watch the swellings go down in a case like this; something I have experienced several times since learning about Arnica. There is one drawback to this kind of rapid healing—you get little sympathy on telling others about it; they think you are exaggerating because they see no significant wound…..unless, of course, they use Arnica! Arnica is one of our greatest homeopathic remedies, but there are many others—over 3000 now and growing! A homeopathic remedy can be made out of pretty well any substance but it is of little use to us until the work is done to find its healing promoting character. That takes time and work—people to do the proving of the remedy; a process which involves healthy people taking the diluted, potentized remedy, tracking their symptoms that appear and recording them. This remedy then will stimulate a healing response in a sick person showing these same symptoms. The dramatic rapid healing of injuries and of acute ailments, when the right remedy is administered, are but two aspects of Homeopathic medicine. It shines as well in the treatment of chronic ailments many of which can be treated only palliatively by medical doctors and drugs. The list of possible human ailments is incredibly long, too long for this news letter. But what is the common denominator in all these ailments, including mental and emotional ones—the human body, the host, the one who is suffering. This body has tremendous power to heal itself, to improve its ailment, more than most every one of us believes—but, it needs help to know what it needs to do, to soften the blockages, to receive a gentle push towards the healing path. That’s where homeopathy comes in, and in doing the healing, the body becomes stronger, healthier and less susceptible to illnesses. The expression of chronic illness tends to vary with each person; each case must be considered carefully to see this individuality and the best remedy chosen in order to get results. The cure is in us! The right homeopathic remedy is the key that opens the door to healing. If you want to explore how Homeopathy can work for you, or your four legged friend, call me and we can talk; there is no charge for enquiries. 416 763 6131 elaine@cornerstonesofhealth.ca Timothy will be away from November 22-30, 2007.
